Lift Judgement


As the athletes attempt their lifts, they are judged by three referees on the stage against a set criteria broken down into distinct sequences:

  • Body position sequence
  • Down sequence
  • Stop sequence
  • Press sequence

The referees have flags or a device to indicate if they believe the athlete executed the lift correctly or incorrectly.

An athlete must receive a minimum of two white lights, which mean “Good Lift”, for their attempt to count towards the result. This is displayed on the attempt board after the lift attempt.


At competitions where a jury is present, lift challenges may be lodged when a “No Lift” is received. They are only accepted within one minute of the lift decision. The jury is comprised of three members who are all the highest level of certification of technical officials. They judge each lift and are able to overturn the decision when a challenge is submitted and only when they are unanimous in that the lift should have been "Good Lift".
